韓国のかささぎが語る一日～幸運の鳥の視点から～ - living things

韓国では「까치（カチ）」と呼ばれ、良い知らせや幸運を運ぶ鳥として親しまれているカササギ。

黒と白の美しい羽を持ち、高い知能で知られる彼らの日常を、野生のカササギ自身の目線で描いた物語。

賢く、自由に、空を舞うカササギの世界を、少しだけ覗いてみませんか？

私は、까치。

韓国ではそう呼ばれる、黒と白の羽を持つ賢い鳥だ。

I am a kkachi.

In Korea, that's what they call me—a clever bird with black and white feathers.

私の仲間たちは、ユーラシアの広い土地に広がっているけど、ここ韓国の田舎の森や街の公園が、私の故郷。

My family is spread across the vast lands of Eurasia, but the rural forests and city parks here in Korea are my home.

人間たちは私たちを幸運の使いと呼ぶらしい。

良いニュースを運ぶって。

Humans seem to call us messengers of good fortune.

They say we bring good news.

ふん、そんなこと知らないけど、確かに私は毎日、面白いことを見つけては喜んでいるよ。

長い尾を振りながら、空を駆け巡るのが大好きだ。

Hmph, I don't know about that, but it's true that I find something interesting every day and feel happy.

I love soaring through the sky, swaying my long tail.

朝の光が木々の葉を照らす頃、私は巣から飛び立つ。

巣は高い木の枝に、泥と枝で固く作ったドーム型。

When the morning light illuminates the leaves of the trees, I take off from my nest.

The nest is a sturdy dome-shaped structure made of mud and branches on a high tree branch.

屋根がついてて、雨もしのげる。

今日も、仲間の一羽と一緒に餌を探しに行く。

It has a roof, so it keeps out the rain.

Today, too, I'm going out to search for food with one of my companions.

地面を歩き回って、虫や実を探すんだ。

私の目は鋭い。

I walk around on the ground looking for insects and fruits.

My eyes are sharp.

光るものを見つけるのも得意さ。

人間の落としたコインやガラス片、時には輝く虫の甲羅だって集めて巣に飾る。

I'm also good at finding shiny things.

I collect coins dropped by humans, pieces of glass, and sometimes shiny insect shells to decorate my nest.

泥棒だって？

違うよ、ただ美しいものが好きなんだ。

今日は、ソウルの近郊の公園に向かうことにした。

人間たちがたくさんいる場所だけど、そこにはおいしいものが落ちてる。

Today, I've decided to head to a park near Seoul.

There are lots of humans there, but delicious things are dropped on the ground.

パンくずや果物の皮、時にはピーナッツだって。

風を切って飛ぶ感覚は最高だ。

Bread crumbs, fruit peels, and sometimes even peanuts.

The feeling of cutting through the wind as I fly is the best.

黒い羽が青く輝くのを感じながら、木々の間を縫うように進む。

仲間が「チャカチャカ！」と鳴く。

I feel my black feathers gleaming blue as I weave between the trees.

My companion calls out "Chaka chaka!"

返事をして、私も声を上げる。「カシャカシャ！」

それは私たちの挨拶みたいなもの。

I reply and raise my voice too. "Kasha kasha!"

公園に着くと、ベンチに座ったおばあさんがいる。

彼女はいつも私たちに餌をくれる。

When I arrive at the park, there's an old lady sitting on a bench.

She always gives us food.

今日は米粒を撒いてくれたよ。

I quickly land on the ground and peck at them.

でも今は、そんな冒険じゃなくて、日常の冒険さ。

That's funny, isn't it?

But now, it's not that kind of adventure—it's everyday adventures.

餌を食べ終わると、仲間と一緒に飛び立つ。

次は川辺へ。

After finishing the food, I take off with my companion.

Next, to the riverside.

そこには新鮮な虫がいっぱい。

川の水面がキラキラ光ってる。

There are plenty of fresh insects there.

The surface of the river sparkles.

私の羽みたいに。

降りて、土を掘り返す。

Just like my feathers.

I land and dig in the soil.

イナゴを見つけた！

素早くくちばしでつかむ。

I found a locust!

I quickly grab it with my beak.

雑食だから、何でも食べるよ。

果物、野菜、小動物、時には死んだ動物だって。

I'm omnivorous, so I eat anything.

Fruits, vegetables, small animals, and sometimes even dead ones.

でも今日は新鮮な虫で満足。

川辺で休んでいると、子供たちの声が聞こえてきた。

But today, I'm satisfied with fresh insects.

学校帰りのグループだ。

I act wisely.

I observe humans and judge if they're dangerous or safe.

でも、突然一羽のカラスが飛んできた。

ハシボソガラスだ。

But suddenly, a crow flies in.

It's a large-billed crow.

私より大きいけど、私は賢い。

カラスが私の餌を狙う。

It's bigger than me, but I'm smarter.

The crow is aiming for my food.

鳴き声を上げて威嚇する。「チャカチャカ！」

カラスはびっくりして、少し後ずさる。

I call out threateningly. "Chaka chaka!"

The crow is startled and backs off a little.

私は素早く飛び上がって、長い尾でバランスを取って旋回。

カラスを追い払う。

I quickly fly up, balancing with my long tail, and turn sharply.

I drive the crow away.

ふふ、勝ったよ。

カラス科の中でも、私たちは特に頭がいいんだ。

Among the crow family, we are especially intelligent.

ミラーテストに合格した最初の鳥だって、人間が言ってるらしい。

夕方近く、巣に戻る途中で面白いものを発見した。

Humans say we were the first birds to pass the mirror test.

Near evening, on the way back to the nest, I discover something interesting.

道端に落ちた光る石。

いや、ガラスの欠片だ。

A shiny stone on the roadside.

No, it's a piece of glass.

青く輝いてる。

くちばしでくわえて、巣に持ち帰る。

It's gleaming blue.

I pick it up with my beak and take it back to the nest.

新しく作った巣に飾ろう。

毎年新しい巣を作るんだ。

I'll decorate the new nest with it.

We make a new nest every year.

古いのは使わない。

清潔好きさ。

We don't reuse the old one.

We're neat and clean.

巣に戻ると、仲間が待ってる。

今日の出来事を話すみたいに、鳴き声を交わす。

When I return to the nest, my companion is waiting.

We exchange calls as if talking about today's events.

太陽が沈む頃、森は静かになる。

人間の街の灯りが遠くに見える。

As the sun sets, the forest becomes quiet.

The lights of the human city are visible in the distance.

韓国は私たちにとって良い場所。

たくさんいる私たち、いつも群れで行動するけど、時には一人で冒険もする。

Korea is a good place for us.

There are many of us; we usually act in groups, but sometimes I adventure alone.

夜になると、星空を見上げる。

民話では、私たちが星の恋人たちの橋を作ったって。

At night, I look up at the starry sky.

In folktales, we are said to build a bridge for the star lovers.

織姫と彦星みたいな。

ロマンチックだね。

Like Orihime and Hikoboshi.

That's romantic, isn't it?

でも私はただ、自由に飛ぶのが好き。

明日も新しい発見があるはず。

But I just love flying freely.

There must be new discoveries tomorrow too.

良いニュースを運ぶ？

少なくとも、自分にとっては毎日が幸運だ。

でも、冒険はまだ続くよ。

ある日、森の奥で不思議な出会いがあった。

人間の老人が、木の下で座ってる。

One day, deep in the forest, I had a strange encounter.

An old human man was sitting under a tree.

寂しそう。

私は近づいて、鳴いてみる。「カシャカシャ！」

He looked lonely.

I approached and called out. "Kasha kasha!"

老人は笑う。

ポケットから実を出して、投げてくれる。

The old man smiles.

He takes some nuts from his pocket and throws them to me.

私は食べながら、彼の話を聞くふりをする。

人間の言葉はわからないけど、気持ちは伝わる。

I eat while pretending to listen to him.

I don't understand human words, but feelings come through.

幸運を運ぶ鳥だって、彼は信じてるみたい。

その後、老人は立ち上がって、歩き出す。

He seems to believe I'm a bird that brings good luck.

After that, the old man stands up and starts walking.

家に帰るのかな。

私も飛んでついていく。

Maybe going home.

I fly and follow him.

街の端まで。

そこには家族が待ってる。

To the edge of the town.

His family is waiting there.

老人は喜んで、家族に私のことを話す。

きっと、良いニュースだよ。

The old man happily tells his family about me.

人間たちに幸運を、ってわけじゃないけど、時にはそんな役割も悪くない。

カササギ（学名：Pica pica）

スズメ目カラス科の鳥で、別名カチガラスとも呼ばれます。特に佐賀県の県鳥として知られています。

外見の特徴

体長: 約45cm（そのうち尾が半分以上の約26cmを占め、長い尾が目立つ）。
色: 黒と白のコントラストが鮮やかなツートンカラー。頭、胸、背、尾は黒く、腹部や肩、翼の一部が白い。黒い部分は光の加減で青、緑、紫などの金属光沢が見え、美しい輝きを放ちます。まるで「空飛ぶパンダ」やパトカーのような配色と言われることも！
大きさ: ハシボソガラスより一回り小さく、ハトくらいのサイズですが、長い尾で細長く見えます。

生態・習性

分布: 世界的にはユーラシア大陸の広範囲に生息。日本では主に北部九州（佐賀県を中心に有明海沿岸）の平野部に限定され、国の天然記念物に指定されています。起源は17世紀頃に朝鮮半島から人為的に移入されたものとされています。
食性: 雑食性で、昆虫（イナゴなど害虫）、穀類、木の実、果物、野菜、小動物、死肉など何でも食べます。益鳥としても害鳥としても見られることがあります。
巣: 高木や電柱に大きな球状の巣（直径1mくらい）を作り、屋根付きで泥や枝を使います。一度使った巣は再利用せず、毎年新しく作る習性。
鳴き声: 「カシャカシャ」「チャカチャカ」と聞こえる騒々しい声で、耳障りと感じる人も多いです。
行動: 地面を歩き回って餌を探し、長い尾を活かした急旋回が得意。ペアで行動し、繁殖期以外は群れを作ることも。
